◎ Personality:
- Yuichiro Hyakuya has come a long way from when he first met Mika and his first "family". Because of his bad experiences with his parents, he was an extremely stubborn individual when he first met the other children at the Hyakuya orphanage. He refused to call them his family, and that even went on after they were taken by the vampires, even though he still lived with them. He was (and still is) incredibly hot-headed around the vampires there, losing his temper once enough that Mika had to cover for him. That doesn't mean that he didn't take care of the other orphans to an extent, but he did leave a good deal of it to Mika and one of the other older kids.
While he didn't call them family, he probably considered them as such eventually, because that's what he called them to Mika before he presumably died.
Yuu still seemed the same as he was back then when the manga picks up with his sixteen-year-old self, he's in the Demon Army, with his drive in life being that he kills every vampire he gets his hands on to avenge Mika and his old family. He made a point to not make any friends and attachments to other kids his age in the school, and he made sure that when Shinoa was sent to make him get friends he told her that he was uninterested in it.
Despite all that, that doesn't mean he's just going to let other people get hurt. When a vampire gets loose on their campus, he decides he has to take it on by himself to not only start avenging his family and proving himself, but wanting to make sure it doesn't hurt others. While it's a secondary concern for the most part, the want is still there to help people at this point -- and it only gets stronger as his character grows in the series. He is one of the driving forces later on helping a child, not caring whether it was a trap or not, because he doesn't want anything to happen to her. Even though he acts like he doesn't care, he does.
He especially cares to those he calls "family", which eventually contains Shinoa, Kimizuki, Yoichi, Mitsuba, and even Guren. He comes around to the idea a little easier the second time around, most likely trying to avoid what had happened to his first family. That doesn't mean that he won't get ahead of himself in his want for power and need to exterminate vampires. While he wants to protect them, he will also put them in danger by breaking out of formation or running off by himself to try to face someone. While this is something that gets a little better later, because of practicing teamwork, he still has a long way to go in that area.
Verbally, Yuu also doesn't pull any punches. He'll call things like he sees them, even when it comes to himself. To that degree, sometimes he doesn't really consider the feelings of the people receiving his words. That isn't to say that he can't take criticism -- in fact, he'll take that criticism so that he can learn from it later, especially later on in the series. His failures in fighting Guren's squad he said he'll take later so that he can improve on them -- much to everyone's shock. But at that point, he's so concerned about making sure nothing happens to his team, he'll realize his own faults to make sure nothing happens to them.
Along the same lines, to a degree, he sympathizes with Kimizuki and Yoichi and their family problems. He understands Yoichi's desire for revenge against the vampires for killing his sister, and while Yoichi didn't seem like the best candidate for the Black Demon Series, didn't oppose his being there when they went through the trial. When Kimizuki gets the news that his sister has taken a bad turn in her health, Yuu also encourages her to see her. He points out that that once his family is gone, they're gone forever -- it ends up in the failing of their test together, but Yuu decided that was more important. It's not his own "family" that matters to him, but families in general are important to him.
His new team aren't the only people that're still important to him. Mika's still very important to his life too -- he thinks about him often, even before he finds out that he's still alive. He's part of the reason why he wanted revenge against the vampires, after all. His focus on him doesn't change at all when he finds out that he's still alive; after that, his intentions turn that he's going to take Mika away from them. Even though Mika is still so important to him, he still considers his team when Mika tries to take him away from the military. He wants both of them safe; so he talks Mika around into going back to help them.
Even though Yuu has had to grow up in a lot of ways, he also has his moments of acting like a child. He's easy to set off when teased, and hardly has mature responses to them. He even goes so far as to lie about his age to avoid being treated like a kid to another comrade when they first met. He doesn't seem to take some things as seriously as they should, but that is also something else that he's learning how to do, as seen by his attempt to start taking criticism.

- Whoa, this is really cool!
[He's obviously just messing around with the device, and he's grinning into the feed.] I haven't seen anything like this in forever!
[Okay, okay. Focus, Yuu.]
Oh, uh...hey, I'm Yuichiro Hyakuya. Does anyone actually have some information about what happened to our worlds? Because I can't believe those Flagers or whatever just destroyed everything like that. My friends wouldn't get beaten that easily.
[Mika, Shinoa, Kimizuki, Yoichi, Mitsuba, and Guren...those assholes better be okay!!]
And that contact list thing is everyone who's here, right? It's not possible for someone to be here that's not on it, because if they're here and they're hiding from me, I'm going to be really mad. Even though that stupid Guren would probably do something like that...
[He's getting sidetracked again--]
Anyway, thanks in advance. I gotta see if I can figure everything else out now.
